#4.1: Celebrating Black Women in Science
Show Notes

To kick off SEASON 4, and to celebrate Women's History Month, Syd and Jess are bringing you two stories of incredible Black women scientists who were pioneers and unsung heroes of medical research! First, Dr. Marilyn Hughes Gaston is an incredible community leader and world-renowned sickle cell disease researcher who revolutionized the way we treat babies born with this painful blood disorder. Second, Dr. Marie Maynard Daly was the first Black woman in the U.S. to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry, and her groundbreaking work laid the foundation for everything we know about high cholesterol and heart disease, the leading cause of death in America!
